September 2026 Calendar of what's on at Geelong Canoe Club

UPDATED. Spring's arrived, the days are getting longer and school holidays are approaching. This means our Kayaking for Kids programs are back. Our evening social paddles start later - at 5.00pm. And there's some canoe polo updates including moving out of the pool and onto the river again in October.

Updated July 2026 Calendar of what's on at GCC

There's a few changes to July's events schedule. Our next two Saturday morning sessions will be held with a canoe focus (that's single bladed paddles) so that participants can prepare for the Footscray Salty Single Blader on 2 August. Everyone is welcome - come along and try single blade paddling. Also, our canoe polo Christian College pool sessions are starting earlier on Sundays at 2.30pm (not 3.00pm).

Geelong Canoe Club 2026 Annual General Meeting Results

Our 2026 AGM drew a full house for an update of the past year’s achievements and to elect the 2026/27 Executive and General Committees. Awards were presented to the Paddler of the Year and Reg Parker Club Persons of the Year. A Lifetime Member Award was also presented to one of our long serving and well-loved members.

July sees a busy schedule for our Club. GCC's Annual General Meeting is on Saturday 18 July at 10.00am. Our winter schedule of activities is going well - join in on social paddles, paddle pursuits and try canoe polo in the warmth of a pool. There's a special canoe polo come and try as part of our Kayaking for Kids program on 12 July.

Marathon come and try fundraising race a great success

Geelong Canoe Club's marathon come and try race on 31 May 2026 was a great success. The participants had a great time while raising funds for two of our young athletes who have made it to this year's world championships - Alexis Jane and Thomas Russell.

Water activity exclusion zone upstream of Queens Park Bridge

The overhead pipe at Fyansford that is upstream of the Queens Park Bridge has been surveyed and is deemed unstable. For safety reasons the river in that area is closed to on-water traffic.

GCC marathon come and try fundraising day 31 May 2026

Geelong Canoe Club is holding a marathon race come and try day to raise funds for two of our young athletes who have made it to this year's world championships - Alexis Jane and Thomas Russell. The marathon come try race starts at 10am. There's also a come try session for anyone that's new to paddling which starts at 11.00am. All paddle craft allowed except for foils. Donate to our young athletes to participate.

Bigger news is 31 May is the date set for our marathon race and come and try day to raise funds for two of our young athletes who have made it to this year's paddle world championships.

April 2026 Calendar of what's on at Geelong Canoe Club

Daylight savings ends on Sunday 5 April so there's big changes to our regular Club activities. Our last Thursday night paddle pursuit for this season is 2 April. Tuesday social paddles will start at 4:45pm from 7 April. And we're working to have our canoe polo sessions at an indoor pool. There's also a placeholder date for a Club racing and fun day we're planning to support Thomas Russell at worlds sprints.

Come and Try Canoe Polo at the Geelong Canoe Club

Canoe polo is an exciting fast-paced game played by two teams of five players on a rectangular playing pitch that can be in open water or in a swimming pool. Join our free Come and Try session on Sunday 22 February 2025 so that we can introduce you to the sport in a fun and safe environment.

Vic Canoe Marathon Championships are on in Geelong in March

The Victorian Canoe Marathon Championships will be held on the Barwon River at the Geelong Canoe Club from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 March 2026. This is a great opportunity for as many members as possible to experience racing at a championship level. Register to race or help out by volunteering - there's lots of great jobs for paddlers and non-paddlers.
