Oceania and Paddle Australia Championships - it's a wrap

Published Sat 15 Apr 2023

It was amazing to see so many of Australia’s and Oceania’s best paddlers compete in various races and divisions in the 2023 Oceania and Paddle Australia Canoe Marathon and SUP Championships on the beautiful Barwon River.

We are very proud of all our members who participated in the championships, from competing on the water to volunteering to help run the event and food stalls. A big well done to club members who took home medals in their races:

  • Arnie Shanahan (1st) - General Class Singles - TC1 M Open (13 km)
  • Bill Strachan (2nd) - ICF Class Singles - K1 M V60-64 (21 km)
  • Alex Brunacci / Arnie Shanahan (1st) - General Class Doubles - TC2 M Open (13 km)

Paddling, whether in a canoe, kayak, ski or stand up board, is a terrific way to get active. And with the Barwon River being one of Australia’s best locations to train and to host major canoeing events, it’s the perfect sport for Geelong locals to try out.

Community members who would like to give paddling a go are always welcome - to find out more and get involved visit Geelong Canoe Club or email admin@geelongcanoeclub.org.au
